LEARNING JOURNEYS

Leadership Asia believes learning is a journey. Modern
science tells us that it starts long before we are born
as our DNA starts to encode our cells and prepares
them for the road ahead.
The Greek philosopher Heraclitus believed, “You can
never enter the same river twice,” so it is with learning
as we move through life; we need to learn in order to
adapt and grow. This has become a necessity in the
modern business environment, a river which flows very
fast indeed.
Leadership Asia looks at the bigger picture of learning
as well as the immediate need to acquire or improve a
skill or ability. Often, poorly designed or delivered
training is quickly forgotten because it does not seem
to link up with or fit into a broader understanding of the
professional development needs and ambitions of the
individual or group and isn’t clearly aligned with the
needs of the team or organization.
A learning journey should be multi-faceted, just as
people are. Ideally, it should unfold over time and not
be just a one-off, take-it-or-leave-it, opportunity.
Successful learning engages people to consider where
they have come from, where they are now and where
they want to go.
